If you manufacture or import a product which falls within the scope of one or more of the New Approach Directives and wish to place your product on the market in any of the members’ states of the European Economic Area, then you must apply CE marking to your product against the essential requirements of all these applicable directives. According to an article in The Guardian on 23-12-2001, the mark was designed by Arthur Eisenmenger. The various components of the CE marking must have substantially the same vertical dimension, which may not be less than 5 mm. 
The CE mark or CE marking is a European conformity marking that indicates that the product it is affixed to complies with all relevant European requirement, and that the compliance has been assessed according the applicable certification procedures. To be strictly accurate, there are two forms of Declaration, either a "Declaration of Conformity" or a "Declaration of Incorporation". Generally speaking this is only the case under the Machinery Directive.
It is not a mark indicating conformity to a standard but rather a mark indicating conformity to the legal requirements of EU Directives. Many of the EU Directives require manufacturers to have a Certified Quality System to ISO 9000 in operation and to use the assistance of a Notified Body in order that the manufacturer can legitmately apply the CE Marking to their product. CE Marking, which indicates that a product complies with harmonised EU requirements for safety and health, based on Directives, will become increasingly important, as CE Marking is mandatory for trading throughout the EU.
For this year, cooling global economy makes Chinese exporters in truble, exporters here are really faced with troubles abroad. We cannot deny the fact that the production scales of China fastener enterprises are not large enough and the enterprises are weak in R&D capacity. China is one of the largest exporters of fasteners. However, most of our top-end fasteners rely on import. The average price of China mainland's fasteners for export is only 2/3 that of Taiwan and 2/5 that of Japan. We mainly sell low-end and cheap standard fasteners.
Under such circumstances, the improvement of applying CE mark is not only a long-term strategic task, but also an urgent one as well. Proper use of CE is one of the most critical elements of marketing products in the European Union for China fastener export.
In order to apply CE mark, technical upgrade and the 100 percent Qualified should be the keywords of China fastener industry in 2008. Today, more and more enterprises aware the importance of technology. They actively input equipment and improve technique.

In the fierce market competition, China fastener enterprises should make efforts to improve their capacities in product development, quality control, communication, creation and lean production. Only if China fasteners enter the middle and high-end global market can they receive respectable margins and brand fame.
